I'm not blaming Ukrainians for anything -- the people there wanted peace. The Ukrainian government betrayed that demand. I think Ukraine was a preventable tragedy and I agree that leaving them in the lurch right now would be morally horrific. But what are we doing to them? Are we actually helping them? We are not. If we cared about the Ukrainian people instead of this idiotic goal of "weakening Russia", which isn't even happening, we would sue for peace immediately and tell the Ukrainian government that they must remain a non-NATO neutral state -- which is all Russia wanted in the first place.
And I'd add that international asset management firms such as BlackRock do not want to help Ukraine and any postwar arrangements will merely replace the Ukrainian oligarchs with western ones.
The entire apparatus of government in the US has been hijacked by global corporate interests that care nothing for the people of Ukraine or anywhere else, least of all the people here in the US they continue to loot. As for why FEMA aid is always inadequate -- this is why.
Ukraine was taken over by a violent US-backed coup in 2014. We have the recordings of Victoria Nuland planning the coup govt. When the coup was complete the new Ukrainian govt declared the Russian language illegal and demanded "de-Russification" of the entire nation. Eastern Ukraine, largely ethnically Russian, found this unacceptable and Donetsk and Lugansk refused to comply. A bloody civil war began at that time and Russia actually refused to become involved. If you get your news from the western press they will say otherwise but there is no evidence that from 2014-2022 it was any but the DPR and LPR that were fighting against the Ukrainian army.
In fact, when Putin acknowledged their independence in 2022 the Donbas (DPR/LPR) celebrated because they finally knew Russia was coming to their aid. This is after 14,000 (UN numbers), largely civilians, has been killed in the Donbas by 8 years of Ukrainian shelling of towns and cities.
If anyone "invaded" Ukraine prior to 2022 it was NATO: first with the coup and then by arming and training the Ukrainian military.
