Tribalism and mythmaking, consensus manufacture, sloganeering happens in every tribe/community. Sometimes it does not even need an informational void. We've all met people who were plainly deranged on some particular POV. Millenarian christians praying for the end days, and telling tales about Israeli red heifer breeding program, for instance.
